The Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted and opened for signature, ratification and accession by General Assembly resolution 44/25 of 20 November 1989 and the entry into force was 2 September 1990, in accordance with article 49. It was drawn up to outline the basic rights of children worldwide and it is governed by four basic principles:

Non-discrimination.
All children, without exception, are entitled to all the rights in the Convention.

Devotion the best interest to the child.
Those working with children have a responsibility to put children’s interest first.

The right to life, survival and development.
All children have the right to live and to healthy development.

Respect for the views of the child.
Children must be treated with respect and their views and opinions, listened to and taken into consideration.   We must try to include the children in out decision-making processes and allow them to make choices.  Example, children be given the opportunities for free play, and to choose their own activities during the day.
