Qualifications
and experience needed for work associated with one occupation in the ECCE
sector
I am on a level 5 in Childcare given
by GRTB in Roscommon town. Many FETAC
childcare courses available in the entire country, ranges from Level 5 to
8. The Education and Training Board
(ETB), private colleges and Institutes of Technology primarily run these
courses. It is also carried out online
and run by private companies.
The Quality and Qualifications
Ireland (QQI) is the guardian of National Framework Qualification (NFQ) which
is responsible for the quality assurance of providers of education and
training. This agency also is
responsible for the validation of qualifications and make some awards. It helps
people considering employment or study opportunities outside Ireland and is
linked to similar frameworks in Europe.
The two qualification frameworks at
European level are:
·
The Framework for Qualifications of the European Higher
Education Area, known as “Bologna Framework” that deals with higher education
awards (NFQ 6-10)
·
The European Qualifications Framework (EQF) that deals all
NFQ levels including schools, Further Education and Training, and Higher
Education.
The QQI offers free services for
those seeking guidance on the academic recognition of awards obtained outside
the Irish system. Also, developed a
system for professional bodies to have their awards recognized in the NFQ of
2014.
In order for a certain person to
work in an ECCE sector, he/she needs to be qualified, as it is required by the
law Child
Care Act of 1991 (Early Years Services) Regulations of 2016. If given a chance I would prefer to work in
the office, because that is my forte, if not, it would be a great experience to
work with children. Working in
pre-school as office worker requires Level 5 or 6 Child Care qualifications
aside from other qualification. An
Office Administrator or Office Assistant, need to have this qualification since
they are dealing with children and parents.
Because they also need to know the laws, regulation and implementation
of a such. In order to get a job in this
area, experienced is needed, but in my case, I do not have any experience. My
plan is to render voluntary work, hoping there will be an opportunity ahead. Just the example mentioned by Marian, a lady
volunteer to work in special need children and she did it for 2 years. The
management saw her dedication and love for her work and when the vacant
position opened she eventually got the job.
