Indoor and Outdoor Safety

The setting should devise and implement a wide range of policies and procedures to promote health and safety.  Appendix of Siolta list 36 policies that should be followed by ECCE settings to meet this standard.  As an ECCE worker, their responsibility both to make sure that the centre is safe for children and to prevent accidents.  As anyone who has spent any time with young children knows, they can be prone to accidents.

Ø  Young children are curious about the world around them and want to explore their environment.  This can lead to unsafe situations when children’s curiosity gets the better of them.

Ø  Young children have no sense of danger and do not have the knowledge or experience of the world to know what is dangerous.  A young child does not realize that a hot kettle will burn them or that broken glass will cut them.


Ø  Young children may be over confident in their physical abilities and push themselves too far physically.
