Chicken Pox
Incubation Period: 11-21 days
Infectious Period: from the day before the rash appears until all the spots are dry
Signs and
Symptoms: a
child will begin to feel unwell, a rash will develop and they may have a slight
temperature. Spots are red and become fluid filled blisters within 48 hours.
Spots usually start on the chest and back, and then spread all over the body,
eventually crusting over into scabs.
Measles
Incubation Period: 7-12 days
Infectious Period: From a few days before until 4 days after the appearance of the
rash
Signs and
Symptoms: measles
begins like a bad cold and cough, and the child will have sore, watery eyes.
Child will become gradually more unwell, and will develop a temperature. The
rash will appear after three or four days. Spots are red and slightly raised,
and may be blotchy, but they will not itch. They tend to begin behind the ears,
and then spread to the face and neck, before spreading to the rest of the body.
The illness usually lasts about a week.
