Aistear: The Early Childhood Curriculum Framework, published in 2009 by
the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA)
This curriculum framework for all children
from birth to six years. Like Siolta,
Aistear is designed to be used in a range of settings including childminding
settings, sessional services, full-time and part-time daycare settings, infant
classes in primary schools and children’s own homes. Aistear aims to help children to grow and
develop as confident and competent learners and is based around four themes,
each with four aims and 24 learning goals.
The four themes are the following:
Ø Well-being
Ø Identity and Belonging
Ø Communication and
Exploring
Ø Thinking
